Capability Lead - Data Migration at PlotBox

The Capability Lead is a key role to help understand the current data landscape and define desired data models (including the overall enterprise data model) taking architectural leadership on a data journey to create best in class solutions. You will work with the squads to plan, prioritise, and complete data migration tasks as efficiently and accurately as possible. Day to day, the Data Capability Lead will be involved in understanding and implementing solutions to drive data excellence. These will involve data consistency, mapping/lineage, quality, standards across multiple projects and solutions, data models and architectural patterns.

This role comes at a time of change within the data team, as we move towards continuous agile delivery for our data migrations, you will be a key role in supporting the wider team in this change. To enable continuous improvement and scalability, you will challenge the status quo, utilise your experience and technical skills to identify efficiencies and enhance the processes and tools we use. 

The role will provide you with an exciting opportunity to be directly involved in data migration projects across our global client base and may require some travel. You will report directly to the Data Migration Manager.  

Responsibilities 

As Data Capability Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Vision, strategy and principles for data migration.
• Standards to support the full end-to-end data migration.
• Operating as a consultant, working closely with customers to successfully deliver large complex migration projects including pre-sales conversations
• Data elements of project and programme solution designs.
• Participating in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment into various environments.
• Liaising with key data stakeholders to execute on the wider data excellence strategy.
• Working closely with data team and other teams (such as Software Development) to explore opportunities to create any efficiencies and ensure alignment and adoption of principles and frameworks.
• Providing oversight and ensuring that all data migration projects comply with defined data migration principles, are delivered on-time, within scope and to budget.
• Operating as the subject matter expert and a key reference for how migrations should be completed
• Exploring emerging technologies and tools for continuously improving data migration process and tools
• Evangelising across the wider company (and customers) about the importance of excellent data migration and governance etc 
• Supporting new or less experienced team members with training and mentoring 
• Liaise with development to provide insight and process development for new products and services impacting data migration

ESSENTIAL:   

The Data Capability Lead will have the ability to work with the business, both technical and non-technical stakeholders to design robust data models, communication and standards. You will have the experience and ability to recommend best practices for data management of source data sets, with the ability to capture and document standards and designs that can be easily understood for all stakeholders

You will have a strong focus on software delivery and be committed to delivering high quality scalable and repeatable processes. You will have the ability to manage your time effectively to ensure delivery against a varied list of responsibilities and will demonstrate a positive can-do attitude.

You will have:
 

Experience

• Successful completion of several complex customer data migration projects from legacy systems to SaaS
• Solid experience using SQL, you will have 5+ years (or equivalent) experience working with varied data formats (csv, MS SQL, Excel, MySQL, PostGres etc.) 
• Proven experience working closely with customers and internal migration and development teams on a regular basis
• Delivered training and/or mentoring for colleagues and other team members
• Proven experience working in a team, working successfully together to achieve overall department goals
• Experience of successfully driving change and building a culture of continuous improvement

Qualification/Skills/knowledge

• A degree level qualification in Computing, Computer Science/CIT, or equivalent work experience
• Strong SQL skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customers and the team
• Ability to quickly learn and demonstrate complex functionality of an IT System
• A commitment to continuous improvement, identifying, communicating, and implementing ongoing improvements to processes and tools
