GIS Operative Student Placement (12m) at PlotBox

We have an exciting 12-month placement opportunity for a Geography, Engineering or Surveying student to who loves international travel and has a desire to develop their GIS knowledge and skills inside an innovative team.

Headquartered at Catalyst Inc’s site at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena, PlotBox is a rapidly growing technology business with a global opportunity. A significant proportion of the business is currently in the USA which is supported by two additional offices in San Francisco and Boston. PlotBox is a cloud-based death care management solution that facilitates cemeteries in operating to world class standards. It is the world's first solution to fully integrate 2 previously separate functions - software and GIS mapping. Because of the number and scope of problems this innovation solves, PlotBox revolutionises the way death care facilities both operate and grow and will change the landscape of cemetery management forever

The Placement GIS Operative position reports to the Senior GIS Technician and will work alongside a team of GIS Technicians and Surveyors to contribute to the completion of all Mapping related tasks to satisfy our customers’ needs and to the continual innovation of the product.

Responsibilities 

Your key responsibilities will involve:

• Creation of georeferenced aerial mosaics.
• Using Photoshop to alter TIFF’s, PNG’s and JPEG’s.
• Creating web maps using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Design work mainly using ArcGIS Pro, we also use AutoCAD occasionally.
• Assisting Drone pilot to complete Aerial Image Surveys.
• Use of GPS equipment to record Ground Control Points.
• Surveying work with iPad within cemeteries to capture headstone photos.
• Surveying work with Total station within cemeteries.
• Surveying work with 360 cameras.
• Champion product consistency and support implementation of product standards.
• Continuous innovation to improve current product capabilities.
• General assistance to wider mapping team effort.

Who we think will be a great fit

ESSENTIAL:   

• Currently Studying a degree in Geography, Engineering or Surveying (successful completion of at least 2 years before the start of the placement)
• Ability to travel worldwide but mainly at present to the USA, UK, Australia and Ireland
• Good writing and oral communication skills

DESIRABLE:  

• Ideally you will have some experience using:
  • Photoshop
  • Arcmap
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • AutoCAD
  • Python
  • G suite (mail, drive, hangout, docs) or Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of GIS programming
  • Bachelor of Science degree in geography, computer science or engineering.
  • GIS internships with experience in the field.
• Valid Driver’s Licence
